![]() October 2013 Made in America: Always Green, Eco Friendly and Fair Trade. You can count on it! Companies manufacture overseas for a variety of reasons: cheap labor, unenforceable worker safety acts and weak environmental controls and other non-existent regulations. Then they use these words like organic, fair trade, green, etc to justify producing these goods in overseas factories. Makes em sleep better at night I guess. As an example, a large US based super upscale purse/ handbag company has a tag that reads something like..."Carefully handmade with warm, loving care in China." Something like that. It's a crock. We don't feel all warm and fuzzy when our well paying manufacturing jobs are offshored to Asia. And let's not forget the heavily polluting container ships that bring all these products to
the US. 11 of these vessels spew as much pollution on these two-way trips as
every vehicle on the planet combined. And then they sail back EMPTY! That ain't green, people. And that's the point: When you buy products "Made in USA" you don't have to worry about whether or not they're "environmentally friendly", or "safe", or "fair trade". THEY ARE! They are because the American companies making them have to adhere to a myriad of specific rules and regulations that govern manufacturing in this country. Okay, sure they may cost a bit more sometimes, but think of all the great things you'll be doing for yourself AND FOR YOUR COUNTRY!
16 Trillion and Counting: Later this month, October 2013, Washington will again face the ugly issue of raising the the the national debt limit, which will allow the US to borrow more money to essentially pay it's bills. As it now stands, every man, woman and child in the USA owes $50,000+ as their share of this debt. Anyway, not to get too complicated, but all this borrowing would be lessened if we could raise our own money. But how? By buying made in USA whenever possible, that's how! You see, by buying American products, we strengthen our manufacturing base, create national wealth, keep more money in this country and most important, enable our local, state and federal governments to collect a lot more tax revenues from the manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and suppliers. This amount of money would be staggering and would greatly reduce our nations need to borrow, borrow, borrow. So, please think about this when shopping and remember the tremendous benefits that arise every time you make the decision to buy American.
